The Risen Savior Shepherds His Sheep
The picture of Jesus as the Good Shepherd is one of the most well-known and dearly loved pictures in the Bible. In a society where shepherding was as common as farming is today, people understood the comparison immediately. Christian art and music helps us to see the beauty of Jesus the Shepherd.  It is more difficult for us to grasp how dangerous it was to be a shepherd. In order to save his sheep the shepherd faced swollen streams, rocky hills, and predatory animals. Today’s Gospel takes us to that scenario: The Risen Savior laid down his life for the sheep.
Prayer of the Day
O Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Good Shepherd who laid down your life for the sheep. Lead us now to the still waters of your life-giving Word that we may abide in your Father’s house forevermore; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
