Pastor James Tiefel has spent 45 years as a pastor and a teacher of pastors. After ten years of pastoring a large Michigan congregation, he arrived in Mequon in 1985 to become a professor at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary where he taught courses in worship and preaching. Since retirement from the seminary in 2020, Pastor Tiefel serves St. John's and Trinity Congregation on Mequon's west side in a semi-retired role. Pastor Tiefel and his wife Brenda have two married sons and six grandchildren. They reside in the Trinity parsonage at 11450 N. Wauwatosa Road.
Pastor James Tiefel
Micah Otto is a senior student at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon and serves as an assistant to our pastor as well as the WELS campus ministry coordinator this year for Concordia University in Mequon. He grew up in Baraboo, WI, and attended high school at Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, WI before studying for the pastoral ministry at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN. After graduating from college, he joined Friends Network and served as an evangelist in Southeast Asia until the pandemic moved him back to the US. After attending 2 years at the seminary, he served as a vicar (pastoral intern) at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Tucson, AZ before returning for his final year of schooling. Micah is married to Christina, who also served as an evangelist in Southeast Asia and currently teaches 5th grade at Christ-St. Peter Lutheran School in South Milwaukee. They await, God-willing, an assignment to a church in May.
