Welcome

At St. John’s Lutheran Church we strive to daily live our faith and share with the world, our community, and our neighbors the life saving message of God’s Word. We are committed to doing this by…

Knowingthe one true God. We worship Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as the one and only God. We confess that it is purely by His grace and love that we have been given faith to know and believe in Him.

Showingour love for God and our fellow man.   Our God has shown us unsurpassable love in forgiving and winning Salvation for us. We strive to live our faith by responding to this love shown to us with the same for others.

Growingin our knowledge of God. Through constant study and focus on the Word of God we grow in appreciation and understanding of the depths of God’s love for us.

We see our mission as one of the highest importance. We welcome you to join us in worship, study, and service to our gracious Lord!

Pastor James Tiefel has spent 45 years as a pastor and a teacher of pastors. After ten years of pastoring a large Michigan congregation, he arrived in Mequon in 1985 to become a professor at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary where he taught courses in worship and preaching. Since retirement from the seminary in 2020 Pastor Tiefel serves St. John's and Trinity Congregation on Mequon's west side in a semi-retired role. Pastor Tiefel and his wife Brenda have two married sons and six grandchildren. They reside in the Trinity parsonage at 11450 N. Wauwatosa Road.

Raised in Libertyville, IL, Vicar Zondag is a senior student at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Although a full-time student, he assists at both St. John's and Trinity and resides with his family in the St. John's parsonage. Because of his own college experience at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and because he spent an intern year working with students at Texas A&M in College Station, TX, Mark has a special interest in campus ministry and is working with students at Concordia University-Wisconsin, located near St. John's Church. He and his wife Sarah have two daughters, Esther and Anastasia.
